Sheldon Adelson, the Las Vegas casino mogul, and his family gave another $5.5 million to the ?super PAC? backing Mr. Gingrich in February, almost single-handedly financing his continuing bid for the White House.
Reports filed by Winning Our Future show that the group raised $5.75 million last month, nearly all from Mr. Adelson and his relatives. Aside from the Adelson family, there were 16 other contributors to the group.
The campaign finance reports show that the group spent nearly all of the money it had raised, leaving it with about $2.3 million in cash as March began.
Mr. Adelson?s friendship with Mr. Gingrich, and the resulting largess, have been crucial to Mr. Gingrich?s ability to compete against better-funded rivals.
That was made possible this year by new campaign rules which allow corporations and individuals to make unlimited contributions to super PACs. Mr. Adelson has said he appreciates Mr. Gingrich?s positions as they relate to Israel.
