How To Know If A Home-based Business Is Legitimate | My Second ...

If you?re thinking about starting a home-based business, there are plenty of opportunities for you out there. Whether genuine opportunities for the aspiring businessperson, or plain cons for the green and inexperienced, the internet overflows with them. How can someone find out whether a home-based business opportunity is genuine or not? Because quitting your job only to get duped by a home-based business opportunity is the last thing you want to happen to you and your budget.

If you?re not the hasty type of businessperson, you?ll know if a home-based business opportunity is genuine or not by looking at the services they supply. Important work will affect more than just one person, and the task itself will be one that others can verify. Also, if lots of money stand to be won or lost depending on the work they can deliver, then you can fairly say you?re dealing with a genuine home-based business opportunity. The business will provide legitimate services for real clients. The wary business seeker should research the company before he or she commits to them. They can consult the better business bureau to see if any negative reports exist regarding this company. They can also do some basic research using the Internet. Internet and Better Business Bureau are normally enough to gain all the information needed to decide whether to join the crew or not.

Also, what they pay for the work you can deliver is a good hint as to the authenticity of this home-based opportunity. You can expect legitimate payment from a legitimate opportunity. Jobs which offer only a few dollars for what may take hours to complete are not worth a person?s time. Your payment should be conditioned only by your proficiency.

Compensation isn?t the only elevated element of a serious, home-based business opportunity. Their requirements will be substantial, too. Obviously a person cannot expect to receive a fat paycheck for doing little. Thus most serious, home-based business opportunities will require not just some time but a rigid schedule of work from their owners and employees. The home-based opportunity may prevent you from spinning your working hours to fit your needs, if the employer wants you at his beck and call at certain hours of the day.

There is a world of legitimate home-based business opportunities, but an entrepreneur has to be very careful as there are also plenty of scams posing for legitimate opportunities. The best way to learn about a serious business opportunity requires employment oftentimes before ownership. One can only benefit from working for a genuine home-based business, as it will give one the chance to learn more about how it runs as well as how to recognize a good business opportunity. He or she will know what works and what does not based on his or her experience with the said company. Then, at the perfect time, those who have worked so diligently for others from home can strike out on their own into the jungle of business ownership and thus create their own home-based business.

Microbial Mules: Scientists Experiment With Engineering Bacteria to Transport Nanoparticles and Drugs

News | Health

Bacteria are exquisite living machines that could one day deliver medicine to cells in the human body, if scientists overcome the numerous obstacles

e-coli-bacteriaPUNY PACK ANIMALS: Some scientists think they can coax bacteria to deliver nanoparticles and drugs into living human cells. Although promising, the research is preliminary. Image: Mattosaurus, Wikimedia Commons

Tiny robots that swim through our blood vessels attacking viruses and malignant cells have not quite crossed the line that separates science fiction from science?but there might be a way to jump-start their development.

Engineering nimble robots that are smaller than blood cells is extremely challenging. Rather than design them from scratch, some scientists have been experimenting with the idea of enlisting an army of sophisticated nanobots already at our disposal: the thousands of species of bacteria swarming inside our bodies right now. In recent years researchers have saddled microorganisms with useful nanoparticles and bits of DNA. Although the research is preliminary, some engineers and microbiologists see realizable potential. This week, at the American Chemical Society's annual meeting in San Diego, biomolecular engineer David Gracias of Johns Hopkins University discussed the progress he and his colleagues have made in gluing nanoparticles to bacteria.

So far, Gracias and his colleagues have managed to decorate Escherichia coli with incredibly tiny beads, rods and crescents made from nickel and tin coated in gold. Each nanoparticle is about 300 nanometers in diamter, or three times the size of a particle of wood smoke. The researchers stuck the nanoparticles to the bacteria with antibodies, which are small, Y-shaped proteins that the immune system uses to identify foreign cells, viruses and harmful bacteria. Each antibody fits like a puzzle piece into an array of different proteins on the surfaces of invading pathogens; antibodies can also lock onto other antibodies?usually from a different species. Gracias and his colleagues first coated the nanoparticles with antibodies from goats and rabbits, and subsequently coated the bacteria in complementary antibodies. When they soaked the bacteria in a solution of the nanoparticles and heated the mixture, the beads, rods and crescents stuck to the bacteria, like so many Lucky Charms marshmallows clinging to the underside of a wet spoon.

Gracias and his teammates also devised a way to load bacteria with nanoparticles at tiny docking stations and release them on demand. First they covered small squares of silicon and gold with a field of Y-shaped antibodies, to which they attached small beads dotted with complementary antibodies. Then they introduced bacteria sporting another set of complementary antibodies to the awaiting beads?as expected, they clasped like Velcro. A wave of dissolving chemicals detached the bacteria and their cargo beads from the docking station.

Many bacteria saddled with nanoparticles were still able to move around freely, albeit not as quickly as their unencumbered brethren. Sometimes, though, the backpacking bacteria just spun in circles, apparently unable to move forward. "This is definitely a work in progress," Gracias says. "Right now we are mostly focusing on varying the size and shape of the nanoparticles and making sure they stick."

Such nanoparticles can be heated from afar with infrared light, destroying diseased tissue. Ultimately, Gracias dreams of coaxing bacteria to ferry spongy nanoparticles soaked in drugs and outfitting bacteria with tiny sensors that measure local temperature and pH or tiny tools that perform surgery on a single cell. Similar research by other scientists confirms the potential of engineered bacteria to deliver medical packages directly into living cells.

In earlier work, Demir Akin of Stanford University and his colleagues used antibodies and nanoparticles to attach molecules of DNA to weakened Listeria monocytogenes, which is a bacterium responsible for many cases of food poisoning. L. monocytogenes is an intracellular bacterium, which means it has evolved ways to get inside animal cells. Akin attached a luciferase gene?which codes for the enzyme that makes fireflies glow?to L. monocytogenes and injected the germs into living mice. Three days later the mice glowed under a specialized camera, confirming that not only had the bacteria entered the mouse's cells, the cell nuclei had incorporated the bacteria's cargo and expressed the gene. Akin designed the living microbots to release their DNA packages inside mammalian cells, where the pH is low (acidic) enough to dissolve the chemical bonds gluing the luciferase gene to the bacteria.

The advantage of L. monocytogenes is that it knows how to get into cells, but it would be risky to use even a weakened version as a medical workhorse because it makes people sick. E. coli, in contrast, are much more harmless, but not all strains have specific adaptations for entering cells. The key, says Douglas Weibel of the University of Wisconsin?Madison, is working with a harmless microorganism that is a strong swimmer and has no problem butting its way into mammalian cells. In an experiment they conducted largely for fun, Weibel, George Whitesides of Harvard University and their colleagues yoked nanosize polystyrene beads to a single-cell green alga called Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. Weibel and Whitesides successfully steered their "microoxen" by shining light on one side of the algal cells (algae move toward light).

After that, Weibel did not pursue the challenge of engineering microorganisms to ferry nanoparticles, but he remains fascinated by the ongoing research. "Bacteria have already figured out how to move around in the body," he says. "They have evolved amazing motility. They can sense changes in their environment and adapt, not only on a short timescale, but they can adapt genetically, too. Even if we can't get them to deliver things in the human body, they could be useful for transporting nanoparticles in the lab. Who knows what advances we'll have 50 years from now."

Here are collectable dolls which you can either buy here, or find through special events and/or treasures. They are hard to find, mostly, but they have many magical powers. You are only allowed to carry three on your person at a time. If you have more than three, the others must be stored in your bank. You may trade them in or out at anytime through the bank. If you collect all of the dolls, you get a special doll, called Ying Yang.
Image
This doll's powers are mostly unkown. It is said that each one always has a different ability; some better than others. Each time you get one of these, it will have a different power. You can get more of the Ying Yang doll by collecting all the dolls. Each set of dolls you have give you one Ying Yang doll. However, if you lose a doll from the set, the Ying Yang doll will disappear.

Problem: 9-1-1 Calls from Cell Phones, in Buildings | Public Safety ...

Denis Paiste, The Union Leader (Manchester, NH)

MANCHESTER ? Cell phones are so prevalent these days that even 911 calls from inside buildings are made more often from cell phones than desk phones.

That?s a problem for locating the cell phone caller, but Cellular Specialties has a solution.

CSI?s Co-Pilot Beacon Transmitter pinpoints the location of a 911 call to within 50 meters, about half the length of a football field, which is a vast improvement over potential errors of up to a mile without it.

?It?s somewhat revolutionary,? Scott Goodrich, president of the company?s Products division, said.

Because it?s specifically designed for CDMA cellular networks, it works with Verizon Wireless and Sprint but not AT&T or T-Mobile.

?The problem is that the carriers really don?t have a good way to trilaterate,? Goodrich said.

To trilaterate means to gauge location by combining differences in time of arrival for data at three different cell towers to pinpoint your phone.

?It?s been a known problem inside buildings for years,? Goodrich said.

R. Bruce Wilson, currently president and CEO of CSI, said 80 percent of cell-phone use is now inside structures.

Goodrich said over 70 percent of 911 calls ? 202,000 calls in the U.S. every day ? are made from mobile handsets now.

?And over 80 percent of mobile calls are made from within buildings,? he said.

?The bigger problem for location is in buildings rather than outdoors.?

Most cell phones have a GPS-chip, but building materials block the signal from coming in, Goodrich said. ?As much as 70 percent of in-building space can?t actually receive or send accurate GPS information,? he said.

?So, if I?m calling 911 and I?m in a building, it?s not really much of anything, because they won?t be able to find me,? he said.

?Unless you tell them,? he said.

Amplification systems and repeater technology, whether from CSI or competitors, improve coverage and capacity, but also reduce the accuracy of location because of shielding and timing delays that buildings introduce.

CSI gets around that problem by putting in multiple strategic beacons, which are similar to a cell site, in airport terminals, on college campuses or at other public spaces.

CSI has a Co-Pilot Beacon Transmitter project under way at the University of North Carolina, which will be installed in the next two to three weeks.

Its first installation was at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas. Both are projects for the Verizon Wireless network.

Significant Aspects For Home Improvement Resources ... - Stewpids

Home improvement makes a great hobby. After all, it builds useful skills, creates a sense of empowerment, and of course it improves the function and look of your home. There are lots of ways to do it, some right and some wrong. Check out these tips so the time you spend on home improvement projects will all be time well spent.

Try to replace your exterior light fixtures. Consider the style of the light fixtures and their function. You need them to be able to bright enough to light up your entryway and to make it safer. Try looking for fixtures that have the same mounting system as your current ones so you can save time on the project.

Always keep your work area clean when doing home improvements. Many accidents occur when an area is cluttered with debris and you cannot move and work properly. Take some time from your project and clean the debris from the area. This will help keep you safe from trips, falls, and tangled cords.

During your next home improvement project, make sure to allocate a space to put all the debris that is generated from your work. It can be expensive to remove all that rubbish, so having a plan ahead of time is essential to saving you money and ensuring that your project continues as scheduled.

If you live in an older house that has imperfections in the ceiling surface, you can camouflage them with the right lighting choice. Avoid lights that flood the ceiling surface with light, instead, choosing recessed can lighting or low-hanging pendant-style fixtures. These types of lighting do not direct light across the ceiling, which helps in hiding ripples, bulges or patched cracks. Nip over to house photo to painting for superb recommendations.

Keeping your house in perfect condition, some annual home improvements should be maintained. Check your foundation all around your house. Any cracks can be an indicator of serious shifting or settling of your structure. This problem needs to be corrected immediately to stop any permanent damage to your home.

Use family members and friends as great aids in your home improvement projects. With family and friends, you can cut the need for help from a professional that could cost quite a bit, while you also get a great deal of fun from the project. Congressional Report: Hezbollah has ?several thousand? donors in ...

A report issued by the House Homeland Security Committee indicates that Hezbollah has a large and threatening presence inside the USA and is successfully raising funds inside the USA to support its Jihad.

Among the findings outlined in the report which are particularly relevant for SFW readers:

? Counterterrorism officials consider Hezbollah fundraising cells to be prevalent across the United States.

? Sophisticated operations have been uncovered within large Lebanese communities in New York and Michigan, but also in other parts of the USA, such as Charlotte, NC.

? There is a general consensus among dozens of experts as well as current and former law enforcement and intelligence officials that Hezbollah, more than any other terrorist organization, is the most capable of transforming US-based fundraising cells into lethal terrorist cells at the order of the Iranian regime.

? There are likely several thousand sympathetic Hezbollah donors across America and hundreds of actual operatives.

? Some Hezbollah terrorists have been quietly convicted of fraud or other criminal activities and deported without their Hezbollah ties being publicly disclosed by federal prosecutors.

The entire preliminary report can be found here:

http://homeland.house.gov/sites/homeland.house.gov/files/Investigative_Findings_Iran_Hezbollah_Threat.pdf

It is highly likely that donations to Hezbollah have come from the USA in the form of zakat payments. Regular readers of SFW will recall that zakat is a form of tithing required under Shariah. The problem with zakat however, is that numerous sources and authorities have confirmed that one of the destinations of zakat money is to those waging violent Jihad. We covered this in detail in a posting in October of 2011:

http://www.shariahfinancewatch.org/blog/2011/10/17/correcting-the-new-misinformation-on-islamic-charities-funding-jihadist-terrorism/

This is related to Shariah-compliant finance in that Shariah-compliant financial institutions are required to donate under zakat just as individuals are. There is an obvious moral hazard involved.

French gunman's brother charged, denies role

(AP) ? A Frenchman suspected of helping his brother plot attacks against Jewish schoolchildren and paratroopers has been handed preliminary murder and terrorism charges.

But Abdelkader Merah denied any role in the attacks. Investigators looking into France's worst terror attacks in years believe Merah helped his brother Mohamed prepare the killings, and are investigating whether they were linked to an international network of extremists or worked on their own.

Abdelkader's lawyer said he feels like "a scapegoat."

"No one knew anything" about what Mohamed was plotting, lawyer Anne-Sophie Laguens told reporters in Paris on Sunday. She dismissed reports that Abdelkader had praised his brother's attacks. "He was never proud of those actions."

Mohamed Merah, 23, claimed responsibility for killing three Jewish schoolchildren, a rabbi and three paratroopers earlier this month. After a 32-hour standoff with police, he died Thursday in a hail of gunfire as he jumped out a window of his apartment in the southern city of Toulouse.

Since then, attention has focused on his older brother Abdelkader Merah, who was handed preliminary charges on Sunday of complicity to murder and theft, and involvement in a terrorist enterprise, prosecutors said. Detained last week, he will remain in custody pending further investigation.

Preliminary charges under French law mean there is strong reason to believe a crime was committed, but allow magistrates more time to investigate.

Authorities suspect Abdelkader had a role in acquiring his younger brother's arsenal and financing his trips to Afghanistan, Pakistan and the Middle East. Mohamed Merah claimed allegiance to al-Qaida and told police he traveled to Afghanistan and Pakistan for training.

Abdelkader was questioned several years ago about alleged links to a network sending Toulouse-area youths to Iraq, but no action was brought against him at the time.

Prosecutor Francois Molins said the inquiry is also looking at anyone else who could have been involved in planning the attacks.

The brother's girlfriend, Yamina Mesbah, was held, then released early Sunday without being charged. The Merah brothers' mother was released Friday night.

The girlfriend denied any involvement in what happened and said she was shocked by the killings, her lawyer Guy Debuisson said, adding that Abdelkader Merah appeared to have led a double life.

"This woman was unaware of anything about her husband's accessory, complementary or secret life," the lawyer said. The couple married according to Muslim custom in 2006, but did not undergo the civil ceremony required in France for a marriage to be recognized.

Abdelkader Merah took five or six long trips to Egypt, ostensibly to study Arabic literature, and his girlfriend joined him on two or three, the lawyer said.

During questioning by police, the lawyer said, Mesbah learned that Merah had had other motivations for his trip to Egypt and "a life that led him toward an extremely intense ... fundamentalism."

"The question to ask today is if Mohamed was the only one that was indoctrinated. Was it just him or are there others?" Debuisson asked.

The first paratrooper killed, Imad Ibn Ziaten, was buried Sunday in his hometown in Morocco on the Mediterranean coast. Townspeople held French and Moroccan flags as soldiers carried the coffin to the grave.

"It is incomprehensible, it is unimaginable. Terrorism doesn't understand this. And above all we must not confuse Islam and fanaticism. They have nothing to do with one another," his brother Hatim Ibn Ziaten said.

French State Secretary for Defense Marc Laffineur accompanied the family to Morocco, saying he wanted to show that "France is in mourning." The other paratroopers were buried in France last week, and the Jewish children and rabbi were buried in Israel.

The killings have affected the race for French presidential elections in April and May, and raised concerns of tensions among France's large Muslim and Jewish communities.

Thousands of people in Paris and Toulouse marched silently Sunday urging unity and tolerance of all religions and cultures after the killings. An enormous French tricolor flag borne by dozens of marchers waved above the Paris march as it snaked away from the Place de la Bastille, birthplace of the French Revolution.

'Breaking Dawn - Part 2' Trailer: Five Key Scenes

MTV News breaks down the best moments from the latest tease from the last chapter of 'The Twilight Saga.'
By Jocelyn Vena

The trailer for the last film in the "Twilight Saga," "Breaking Dawn - Part 2" is here, and while it's short, the teases are also very, very sweet.

Fans went nuts last week at the opening of "The Hunger Games," where they got their first look of Vampire Bella. Directed by Bill Condon, the film focuses on Bella's transformation while she and the Cullen clan fend off opposing vampire forces and protect their daughter, Renesmee. While none of that action made this teaser, we did get a good look at the new Bella. In honor of that scrumptious reveal, here are our five favorite moments.

The Red-Eye Reveal
One of the key characteristics of vampires are those blood-red eyes, and Bella's steal the show when they get their own close-up in the trailer. When the camera shows them as she is standing with Edward, we know the transformation is complete. The scene will speak to fans who having been craving this next step for Bella the first movie.

Bella on the Hunt
Several shots give us a preview of Vampire Bella in action, including her new lightning-fast speed and desire to hunt for blood. We see her running through the forest and, in the last shot of the trailer, eyeing a deer. This is a pivotal moment for Bella. since she now understands the bloodthirst that Edward has been fighting the entire span of their love affair.

Her Revelation About Being a Vampire
Bella's personal struggles seem to be over, and her line in the trailer proves that she's finally found her true identity. She says, "After 18 years of being utterly ordinary, I finally found that I can shine." The usually reserved Bella is now strong and full of confidence, prompted by her newfound immortality.

Jacob Meeting Up With Her
After years of pining away for Bella, Jacob, still as toned and beefy as ever, meets up with his former love, and he realizes that while she is now vampire, well, she is also still Bella. He tells her, "I didn't expect you to seem so you." This is a turning point for the werewolf, who has always struggled with Bella's decisions, especially when they could be fatal to her life as a mortal and or any chances he might have with her.

Edward's totally into it
As they stand, feeling each other out, Edward confesses, "You're so beautiful. We're the same temperature now." We assume in vampire speak, that's pretty sexy and romantic. While he may not always have been onboard with Bella's choices — like keeping their half-vampire super spawn despite nearly dying in childbirth — he now seems at ease with the new life they can lead together, forever. The long-awaited final film in the franchise opens in November. Check out everything we've got on "Breaking Dawn - Part 2."

NEW YORK (AP) ? A teenager who's campaigning to make it easier for children to see an upcoming documentary about bullying, the producers of the NBC musical drama "Smash" and Lady Gaga were among the winners of Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation media awards announced Saturday.

ABC's "Dancing With The Stars," the popular Spanish-language TV programs "Caso Cerrado" and "Primer Impacto," and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tony Kushner's recent work "The Intelligent Homosexual's Guide to Capitalism and Socialism with a Key to the Scriptures" also were among the honorees recognized at a ceremony in New York. GLAAD is set to present more awards in Los Angeles in April and San Francisco in June.

The awards are designed to honor fair, accurate and inclusive representation of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

Katy Butler, a 17-year-old from Ann Arbor, Mich., got a special award for gathering more than 400,000 signatures on an online petition pressing the Motion Picture Association of America to lower its R rating for "Bully," a documentary set for release Friday. The MPAA has said language used in the film warrants restricting children under 17 from seeing it without an adult.

Craig Zadan and Neil Meron were honored for their careers, which include producing "Smash" and the films "Hairspray" and "Chicago."

Among awards for specific works, "Pariah," writer-director Dee Rees' movie about an African-American teenager struggling to come out as a lesbian, was named the outstanding limited-release film. Ricky Martin, The New York Times and a Boston Globe story about a transgender teenager and her identical twin brother, written by Bella English, also got laurels in various categories.

Honors for Spanish-language work included awards for episodes of "Caso Cerrado" and "Primer Impacto" and for a story, by Claudia Torrens of The Associated Press, about a Hispanic gay couple planning to marry and become fathers of twins, with the help of a surrogate mother.

Danish consumers are attracting attention in a new international study on healthy heating. More than 3,000 consumers from five European countries were asked whether they are willing to accept national economic interventions to promote healthy eating habits. The results are unequivocal:

Danes have the most positive attitude towards economic interventions within the nutritional area, and are also willing to pay more to eat more healthily, says PhD student Jessica Aschemann-Witzel from Aarhus University, Business and Social Sciences, who is one of the architects of the study.

As many as 70% of Danes participating in the study are prepared to pay more tax to get healthier food and more information on what constitutes healthy food. In the other participating countries, the same figure was approx. 20% or less.

Danes often have more faith in the public authorities and are used to paying high taxes, and therefore they are not as dismissive to changes in these areas as other populations, says Jessica Aschemann-Witzel.

The countries covered by the study are the UK, Italy, Belgium, Denmark and Poland.

The results will be discussed at an international workshop in March 2012, which is being organised by Aarhus University. Here, representatives from various ministries, NGOs (Non-governmental Organisations) and universities will participate.

At the workshop, Denmark's representatives, Associate Professor Tino Bech-Larsen and Assistant Professor Jessica Aschemann-Witzel from Aarhus University, Business and Social Sciences, will focus on why the responses from Danish participants differed to those from participants in the other countries, and what this clear Danish attitude may mean for future health policies in Denmark.

###

FACTS

  • The study is called the EATWELL study, and is part of the larger EATWELL project, which is funded by the EU Commission.
  • The study is based on more than 3,000 random interviews carried out online, of which approx. 600 were with Danes.
  • EATWELL is an EU FP7-financed project, which runs from April 2009 to September 2012.
  • The EATWELL consortium consists of teams from the University of Reading, University of London (SOAS), Aarhus University, Ghent University, University of Bologna, The National Institute of Research on Food and Nutrition of Italy, Jagiellonian University Medical College, Kraft Foods R&D and EACA (European Association of Communications Agencies).

New-home prices rise, but sales slip

By Reuters

Sales of new homes fell in February, but a jump in prices to their highest level in eight months kept hopes alive of a recovery in the housing market.

The Commerce Department said on Friday sales slipped 1.6 percent to a seasonally adjusted rate of 313,000 units. January's sales pace was revised down to 318,000 units from the previously reported 321,000 units.

Sales for November and December were revised up a bit.

Economists polled by Reuters had forecast sales at a 325,000-unit rate in February. Compared to February last year, new home sales were up 11.4 percent.

The median price for a new home rose 8.3 percent to $233,700, the highest level since June. Compared to February last year, the median price was up 6.2 percent.

The report, which rounded off a week of mixed housing data, followed a similar pattern seen in the market for used homes. Home resales fell in February, but prices rose from a year earlier. Housing starts slipped, while permits for home building approached a 3-1/2 year high in February.

The housing market continues to be hobbled by an oversupply of used homes on the market - especially from foreclosures, many of which sell well below their market value.

The inventory of new homes on the market was unchanged at a record low 150,000 units last month. At February's sales pace it would take 5.8 months to clear the houses from the market, up from 5.7 months in January.

New home sales last month surged in the Northeast and West, but slumped in the South and Midwest. New home sales account for about 7 percent of the overall housing market and face stiff competition from the used home segment despite low levels of stock.
