- Best of the Best in 2011
In the process of research and hosting the Self-Directed Investing For Retirement Carnival I run across many excellent investing articles from a large variety of great blogs. Here are the ones I?ve picked to showcase as the best personal finance investing blog posts in 2011.
Investment Money Management
Jeremy Vohwinkle at Generation X Finance tells us ?This is Why You Can?t Make Money in the Stock Market? This is one of my favorite because Jeremy makes a point I write about frequently. Most people are overexposed to stocks and make very poor asset allocation decisions.
Pinto at Moolanomy gave us ?7 Costly Retirement Savings Mistakes to Avoid? where he outlines important mistakes you definitely want to avoid.
Jim Yih at Retire Happy Blog answers the question ?What Rate of Return Should You Assume For Your Retirement??? Jim explains why this is such a crucial question for your retirement planning.
Investing 101 ? Online Investing for Beginners
Darwin at Darwin?s Money wrote ?When Faith Kills ? Life, Death, and Your Finances? where he warns us to do our homework, ask questions, and be skeptical. While this seems fairly simple he provides examples that demonstrate most of us have too much faith.
Rob Bennett on Out Of Your Rut tells us ?Market Timing Is Frugality Applied to Stock Investing?. Rob points out ?It?s not possible to practice frugality with your purchases of stocks without changing your asset allocation in response to big price swings and that?s a form of market timing.
Shaun Connell writes an excellent guest post for Bible Money Matters titled ?Why I?m Not a Gold Bug?.Or Any Other Type of ?Bug?". Shaun offers some sound principles such as ?Perhaps the simplest reason to not be a ?bug? for gold is that being a ?bug? for anything is very risky and not a good idea.
Jim Yih at Retire Happy Blog in his second featured article here produced ?The Five Realities of the Stock Market?. Jim provides simple stock market truths that keep an investor thinking correctly about investing.
Value Investing Strategies
Shailesh Kumar at Value Stock Guide shows us ?How to buy Stocks at a Discount??? We all look for the best bargains when we are in the market for an appliance, or clothing, or an automobile. Ironically, when it comes to buying stocks, most investors are likely to go with the stock advice they get from friends or media, without paying too much attention to the value.
Kanwal Sarai at Simply Investing gives us ?Top 5 Reasons Why People Buy Index Funds?. Sometimes the truth hurts. This is a ?tell it like it is? article that every mutual fund owner should read.
Mathieu Borville, PhD writes a guest post for Invest It Wisely titled ?The Cyclically Adjusted Price/Earnings (CAPE): How to Beat Stocks With a 50-50 Portfolio?. This valuable article might be too deep for the novice investor but nevertheless an outstanding value investing post. You will need more than a couple of minutes for study here, but it?s worth it!
In another post from Rob Bennett for Out Of Your Rut titled ?Most Stock Investors Are Gambling With Their Retirement Money?; Rob points out ?the behavior we engage in when buying stocks is more akin to behavior we exhibit in gambling casinos than it is to the behavior we exhibit when buying things?.
Financial Investment Planning
Another post from Jeremy Vohwinkle at Generation X Finance titled ?How Correlations Between Asset Classes Affect Your Portfolio? gives us a good lesson on correlation of returns among asset classes. Correlation is an important concept for true diversification.
Natalie Pace for Everything Finance gives us ?Are Bonds A Safe Bet?? This is a pertinent post because I believe investors are investing too heavily in bonds and do not understand the risks.?
Finally, from the AAAMP Blog I have added ?How Much of Your Investment Portfolio Can You Afford to Lose?. A breakeven loss analysis chart demonstrates why your asset allocation and risk management must control investment losses.?
