Friday Author Interview Series: Lisa Shultz ... - Self-Publishing Experts

?Edit and then edit again! Never short cut editing.? Lisa ShultzSpeaking Your Truth Volume Two

How did you get started writing your book? Or what inspired your book?

Early in 2009, Lisa reflected on the ten years that had passed since her divorce and how far she had come since that challenging event. Lisa had the idea to share her own story and at the same time collect other stories of women who had overcome difficult times in their lives or had some sort of inspirational story to share.

What was the hardest part about completing your book?

Initially finding women with the courage to share events and circumstances of their life that were sometimes painful to remember or relive. Once we offered our first writing workshop to assist them in getting their story on paper, the submissions began to flow in.

Did you learn any lessons in the book creation process, if so what where they?

You can never short cut the editing process, and despite the best efforts at editing and proof reading, some errors still slip by! Money and time spent on the editing process is worthwhile and not rushing that process is also important.

Did you enlist support in getting your book done? If so, what kind of support?

Self-PublishingLisa asked Andrea to partner with her, which helped immensely in bringing the project to completion with two people working together on necessary tasks and keeping each other accountable. Each offered their strengths to the table as well. This brought the book to publication more quickly as tasks were divided up taking the pressure off one person to do it all.

What tips or advice do you have for aspiring authors?

Edit and then edit again! Never short cut editing.

Also, market early and often and keep the momentum after the official launch with ongoing marketing, speaking engagements, and networking.

If you self-published, what made you self-publish?

Yes, we elected to self-publish to maintain our creative control, set pricing, and produce a book on the timeline we chose.

If you had to do your book all over again, would you?

Absolutely! In fact, we have done two volumes of Speaking Your Truth and are now planning a third!

Are you writing or planning to write an additional book(s)?

In addition to a third volume, we each have individual projects as well.

Lisa is writing a novel about her dog?s view of her life for 14 years she lived with Lisa, and Andrea is working on a children?s book.

What else would you like to share about you or your book?

If you have a story to share, we would be delighted to have you submit a chapter for Volume Three and let others know about the project as well.

How can people find out more about your book?

Please visit our website, Speaking Your Truth Book to learn about our contributors and download our submission requirements for future volumes.

Please support our project with your ?like? of our facebook fan page.
