digital clamp meter - Useful Tips To Buy And Use of Digital Clamp ...

A clamp meter is a device which is employed to measure the value of electric current flowing through a conductor or circuit. The analog versions of these devices have been in use for many years. However, the digital meters are fast gaining attention due to many advantages they offer.

Digital clamp meters are convenient to use and offer more accurate readings as compared to their analog counterparts. Most importantly, these devices are extremely safe to use as they measure the current without coming in contact with the wires. Low maintenance and long life are other advantages worth mentioning.

Factors To Consider: There are many models of digital clamp meter available in the market these days. Manufacturers from all parts of the world design them with different features and functions. The first thing to decide is between the single purpose or multi purpose device. Multi purpose clamp meters are designed to measure voltage and resistance in addition to the electric current.

The buyers may like to choose among the indoor or outdoor clamp current measuring meters. While some of the models work for both the purposes, others may either work indoors or outdoors. The display of digital meters should also be checked to ensure that the readings can be read conveniently. Though, the LCD displays of these digital devices are admired for offering crystal clear views.

The types of current that a clamp meter measures is another important factor. Some measure AC, while other measures DC. There are models that are designed for the dual purpose. The range between which the device can measure the current value should also be of concern. Considering all functions and features of different devices can help in better comparison and the right selection.

Tips To Use: A digital clamp meter is quite easy and safe to use. However, the first-time users should learn some good tips to make the best use of these devices. First of all, it is advised to switch off the current while putting the clamp around the wire whose electric current value is to be measured. The user must learn the instructions to use different buttons and functions of these devices while purchasing them or from an expert later. The next step would be to set the type of current and range within which the reading is to be recorded.

Finally, switch on the power and note down the reading that the device shows. Some fluctuations may occur and the user must wait for the reading to get stable. Once the reading is noted, the power should be switched off and the clamp meter should be removed.

Clamp meters are of great sue for the electricians as well as the homeowners. These devices can help in keeping the expensive appliances safe against damage. Something like a digital clamp meter is an extremely handy and portable device that can be used to frequently measure the values of the current.

The Murals of Obama?s First Term

"We love Obama." Jumpstart Learning Center, West Chicago Ave., at Birwood St., Detroit, 2012. "We love Obama" on the wall of Jumpstart Learning Center.

On the wall of the Jumpstart Learning Center in Detroit, President Obama is depicted as a preacher addressing a crowd of tiny people from behind a lectern.

?We like Obama around here,? says the center?s director, Ms. Lockhard, who commissioned the painting from a neighbor for $150 during the first year of Obama?s presidency. When I commented that Detroit doesn?t look any better now than it did three years ago, Ms. Lockhard replied that her immediate neighborhood has improved.

Since Obama first took office in 2009, murals of his likeness have been appearing on the walls of fast food restaurants, barbershops, storefront churches, and other inner-city businesses across the U.S. The president is frequently pictured alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. A South Los Angeles resident explained this choice to me: ?Rosa Parks sat so Martin Luther King could walk. Martin Luther King walked so Obama could run. Obama ran so we can all fly.? A large mural at Master Burger in South L.A. suggests that Barack Obama has become president with the help of Marcus Garvey, the Tuskegee Airmen, Sojourner Truth, and other members of the black pantheon.

Urban murals typically show Obama wearing a tie and smiling. Often he has the up-tilted face and earnest demeanor of the famous ?Hope? campaign poster: a statesman reflecting on issues of global significance.

When painted by African-American artists, Obama?s tie is often red, his jacket blue, and his shirt white, this combination echoing the American flag that is often also incorporated. When Obama is depicted by Latino artists, on the other hand, he generally has Latino looks and lacks red-white-and-blue dress.

Lance Estos Bradley is proud of the mural of Obama he painted in an empty lot in Central Harlem for the Tabernacle of Deliverance.

"I did it lifelike," he told me. "I picked the photograph myself in the Internet. It reflects a moment in time when a black man was elected president. I didn't think it would happen in my lifetime, and it may never happen again." The slogan written in big letters in the mural, ?Yes We Can,? feels dated in 2012.

The murals are signs of trust in the president, but in some cases the paint is beginning to chip away.

Reader rants: Cagereaders weigh in on Frankie Edgar?s fight, GSP?s return and more from the MMA world

With an unbelievable few weeks of MMA, Cagereaders had some really, really strong opinions. Because of your thoughts, Cagewriter decided it was a perfect time to bring back Reader Rants. Drawn from Cagewriter's Facebook page, here are thoughts from Cagewriter's readers. What are you ranting about this week? Tell us on Facebook, and you may be on our next Reader Rants.

Frankie Edgar is moving to featherweight and getting an immediate title shot against Jose Aldo at UFC 153. What say you, Cagereaders?

Interesting move for Frankie. If he doesn't win, then where does he go from there. I guess one challenge at a time? -- Mark Jimerson

Frankie has a huge chance don't count him out! -- Monzeil Jhamal Flemming

Jon Jones' reported request to Dana White to get Chael Sonnen to cool it with the trash talk also got you talking.

I don't know if I buy this story. There has been so much Jones hate, and I am sure this post will draw even more. This one sounds like BS to me. -- Eric Chism

I wonder if this is a sign of things to come with jones? Can't believe he wouldn't take the fight! I don't blame dana for feeling the way he does. I think jones is a terrific fighter, but wonder if character flaws will be a problem. I'll be watching. -- Kevin Armitage

Whether he deserves it or not, Sonnen is now the uncrowned 205 lb champ until Jones proves otherwise. Refusing to accept a challenge is the same as forfeiting. -- Jason Zachary

Georges St-Pierre was medically cleared to fight. Will he be back to his former self? Cagereaders weighed in.

I hope not. I hope he will fight to win instead of fight to not lose his belt. Maybe knowing that Condit has the interim belt it will motivate him to prove he deserves to be the champion. -- David Bernetich

There is no upside to the time off, obviously. It's a negative performance-deflating incident no matter how great his rehab went. The only question is if he is indeed good enough to come away with a win against Condit so that he can get BACK to where he should be AFTER the fight...no doubt in my mind this will be his biggest challenge in his entire life...any athletes out there would agree with me. -- Kyle Ertl

Anderson Silva said he didn't finish Thales Leites because of their friendships. Here's what Cagereaders had to say about this.

During one of Joe Louis's title defenses, he fought John Henry Lewis. Before the fight, Joe told his trainer that he didn't feel comfortable fighting such a good friend of his. Joe planed on carrying John for the full 15 rounds because he
did not want to hurt him.

Joe's trainer stated that he would be more likely to hurt John if he were to carrying him the full fight. Therefore, Joe went out and KOed John in the first round.

Both continued to be good friends. John Henry Lewis retired after his fight with Joe. It was the biggest purse of his career. -- Wrestling Roots

Its an embarrassment to the sport. They are professional fighters so they should act like it. -- Helio Fabian Rangel

The Federal Communications Commission is eyeing a proposal to tax broadband Internet service.

The move would funnel money to the Connect America Fund, a subsidy the agency created last year to expand Internet access.
The FCC issued a request for comments on the proposal in April. Dozens of companies and trade associations have weighed in, but the issue has largely flown under the public's radar.

"If members of Congress understood that the FCC is contemplating a broadband tax, they'd sit up and take notice," said Derek Turner, research director for Free Press, a consumer advocacy group that opposes the tax.

Numerous companies, including AT&T, Sprint and even Google have expressed support for the idea.

Consumers already pay a fee on their landline and cellular phone bills to support the FCC's Universal Service Fund. The fund was created to ensure that everyone in the country has access to telephone service, even if they live in remote areas.

Last year, the FCC overhauled a $4.5 billion portion of the Universal Service Fund and converted it into a broadband Internet subsidy, called the Connect America Fund. The new fund aims to subsidize the construction of high-speed Internet networks to the estimated 19 million Americans who currently lack access.

If mega-corps are FOR a tax, it's ONLY because they will be profiting, in the many $Bs, from the tax.

They'll pocket the tax to Connect America but they won't Connect America seriously, and the govt won't penalize them for not connecting. iow, no accountability.

btw, DSL is NOT broadband, it's baseband.

DSL is broadband delivered over a phone line. :facepalm

"Federal Communications Commission has the following definition for Broadband Internet:

??broadband service [is the] data transmission speeds exceeding 200 kilobits per second (Kbps), or 200,000 bits per second, in at least one direction: downstream (from the Internet to the user?s computer) or upstream (from the user?s computer to the Internet)?
http://www.brighthub.com/computing/h...id=parsely_rec

Also, why is there another tax needed for this? The USF fund is sufficient.

DSL is analog baseband, not broadband. DSL is faster than audio-frequency modems, but it's not broadband.

broadband is misused widely. the terms were originally broadband vs baseband.

Misuse doesn't make it right, only common parlance.

and FCC is really talking about mainly DSL, since true broadband in underserved (rural) areas would be WiMax or cable, not twisted pair copper.

Restaurant review: The Fat Duck, Bray ? Trivial Pursuits

In last year?s exceptional documentary Closer To The Edge, central protagonist Guy Martin says that the word unbelievable is bandied around too much these days. Despite spending most of the film inches from self-afflicted doom, he refutes claims that what he?s doing is unbelievable, going on to say ?When a man eats his own head, I will hold me hands up and say: ?THAT is unbelievable?.?

It?s hard to argue with his sentiment. In the overhyped, sensationalist world in which we live, reputations are built up and knocked down with one fell swoop of a journalist?s hand. Amid mediocrity, the good can seem great, the great can seem extraordinary and the plausible is often labelled with that word? Unbelievable.

It was with those sage words ringing in my ear that I arrived in the sleepy Berkshire village of Bray last week to go for dinner at Heston Blumenthal?s flagship restaurant The Fat Duck. Three Michelin stars are not handed out willy-nilly, indeed only four such places in the UK have ever been exalted to such pantheons of greatness, but at the same time I was wondering if food could ever achieve the tag affixed by so many to the place. Unbelievable.

The restaurant itself is a surprisingly low-key affair. No garish sign outside (it?s entirely possible to walk past and not even acknowledge its existence), nor lavish d?cor to distract you. The bells and whistles that adorn so many places are stripped out. This is a gastronomic experience, laid bare. Even the element of choice is removed, something an indecisive and non-fussy eater like myself is hugely appreciative of. You are seated, told what you are going to eat, and that is the end of it. The curtain is raised.

The first course (of fourteen, no less) was described as nitro poached aperitifs, a phrase that only really makes sense in hindsight. A choice of three classic pre-dinner drinks were offered, in mousse form, and poached in smoking liquid nitrogen before your very eyes. The waiter?s dexterity in their creation somehow transforming the scientific-looking canisters into an effortless art form. This is far from the only time this bridge between those age-old polar opposites is crossed during the course of the meal. The result here, resembling a small meringue, was ice cold yet melted in the mouth to leave the exact sensation of your drink of choice. It was a strong opening statement.

A tasty dish of red cabbage gazpacho was quickly followed by another of the eccentrically original creations that I had gone to experience. We were instructed to place a slither of oak moss on our tongues to prepare our palates for what was to follow. A slice of truffle toast sat aside a bowl of quail jelly, crayfish cream and chicken liver parfait. As the moss coated your mouth and prepared you for the earthy nature of the truffles, dry ice was poured liberally all over the table top, lending the impression that you were eating from the morning fog in a woodland clearing.

If you go down to the woods today?

At this stage it?s probably worth noting that the inner cynic is screaming at you to ignore this OTT mumbo jumbo, but the fact of the matter is that you have gone to this extraordinary place to be entertained both sensually and theatrically. If you buy into the drama of the piece, the rewards are obvious. It was, needless to say, phenomenal.

Next up was one of the signature dishes of the place, in the form of snail porridge. The equally famous eggs and bacon ice cream had sadly been removed from the menu a while ago, but when Heston first hit the scene all those years ago, it was these dishes that captured the nation?s imagination. Many would recoil at the thought of snail porridge, it sounds rather like the sort of elaborately repulsive things that the baddies in Roald Dahl novels would eat, like bird pie or snozcumbers. It was however deliciously textured, and topped off with some intricately shaved fennel. Another extraordinary taste sensation.

Snail porridge

It feels strange that I would not elaborate on the next course, but with fourteen to get through, the ?mere? excellently roasted foie gras (which I hasten to add would be a highlight of most other meals) seems somewhat too ordinary to mention. The same cannot be said of the next dish.

The mad hatter?s tea party from Alice in Wonderland was lovingly, deliciously and totally insanely recreated in front of our eyes. A gold pocket watch was dropped into a teapot of clear liquid, only to transform the contents into a tea-coloured consomm? once shaken. From here, you were instructed to pour the contents into a teacup of veal and miniature poached egg to create the famous mock-turtle soup that the Hatter served up. It was a hilarious concept really, and one that played on the inner child in everyone. A good, yet unspectacular tasting dish was elevated through interaction. Conceptually, it took the cheap thrill you got from adding your own salt to crisps, or shaking your own salad? and ramped up the theatre a notch or ten.

Mad Hatter?s Tea Party? Before and after.

The following dish was another headline act, the sounds of the sea. For this, we were given a conch shell with headphones coming out of it (as most conches do, naturally), and were instructed to listen to the noise of a gently-lapping shore as we marvelled over what was in front of us. A shoreline scene, briny sea crafted from edible froth, a sand substance made of anchovy and tapioca, all strewn with edible seaweed and sashimi, was to be the focus our four remaining senses. Heston has long claimed that sound can enhance your sense of taste and while it certainly added to the novelty of the experience, to my humble taste buds, the aural aspect was probably unnecessary. Bah, humbug!

The sounds of the sea

The rest of the menu was a mix of the extravagant and the excellent, with the two very rarely separated. Salmon poached in a liquorice gel proceeded immaculately cooked lamb. A cup of hot and iced tea (each entering a different side of your mouth to cause the oral equivalent of when you?re simultaneously washing your hands under a hot and cold tap) was followed by a tiny edible picnic, complete with a white chocolate rug and wild strawberries.

By the time the sweeties came out at the end, I was unsure as to whether it was even the same meal as when I started. Fans of Heston?s television programmes will know that he possesses a sizeable inner child, and this manifests itself in the doggie bag you are given to go home with. Edible wrappers, coconut tobacco, jam-filled playing cards. It?s straight out of Willy Wonker, and given that you almost certainly have room for them after the meal, a nice way to carry the experience over to the following day.

Anyhow, in summation, what were my overall feelings. Of course it is pretentious, that?s without question. In terms of sheer quality, you can definitely do better elsewhere, while the bill is big enough to make a Toucan jealous. But that?s missing the point. This is food served as theatre. This is novelty and invention, in the grand traditions of this fair isle. And with that in mind I find it hard to deny that, despite my reservations over the word, much of what you eat at The Fat Duck is? unbelievable.
