Actress Aruna Shields Interview | Celebrities Gossip | Hollywood ...

InterviewAruna Shields?recently gave an?exclusive interview?to the media and below is an extract of this interview. Aruna Shields says that Bollywood is indeed a complex mystery and to know why she think so, we invite you to read the interview below.

Tell us about your new film MR SINGH MRS MEHTA
MR SINGH MRS MEHTA which releases on June 25 is the directorial debut of Pravesh Bhardwaj who has assisted directors like Shyam Benegal and Gulzar and is produced by Medient. Set in London, MR SINGH MRS MEHTA is the story of Ashwin Mehta and Neera Singh who find that their spouses are having an affair. Drawn together by shame and anger, they find comfort in their growing friendship even as they resolve not to be like their unfaithful mates.

How do you view this whole issue of extramarital affairs which have become now so common in the modern society?

I don?t agree with affairs as they cause pain and secrets in relationships?but people will always have them and for a variety of usually selfish and complicated reasons: Neglect, insecurity, boredom, midlife crisis, weakness, excitement, stupidity, loneliness, revenge. Neera has her affair out of loneliness, despair and confusion. Also her conscience is relieved because she knows her husband is also cheating on her! Every relationship is different and it?s hard not to judge. Nobody is perfect. To make your relationship less vulnerable to an affair you really have to communicate, not take your partner for granted and respect each other.

What is you role in the film MR SINGH MRS MEHTA?

I play Neera Singh, a girl from small town who is an agony aunt columnist who advices others on their relationship and discovers that her husband is cheating on her. It?s a film about relationships.

From desi bond girl to an agony aunt that?s quite a jump in the range of role.

From a high action film like PRINCE to a film based purely on relationships, you can say that it has been quiet a jump. I?ve been blessed to have done a variety of different roles so early on in my career. I?ve played everything from femme fatale, girl next door, action hero to working class, even animalistic tribal woman. Even so, roles are easier to get when they are closer to what you actually are, because that?s how you?re perceived. Otherwise you have to work hard changing yourself and making it believable. Plus you?re competing with other actors who naturally are that type with no effort. You can do it, I?ve done it but it takes preparation.

It?s difficult changing your voice and physicality but extremely rewarding when the hard work pays off. You need good observational skills so you can watch how different people behave. Having intuition, spontaneity and trusting your choices is also important and has helped me a lot.

How did you get the part?

Pravesh was meeting actors from my agency at Pinewood studios and asked to see me. We met and we clicked. We went through sections of the script together. We communicated ideas about the script fluidly. Many actresses could have played my role and interpreted it in their way? but looking back I think I was chosen because I listened carefully to the director and we got on so well. He sensed I was very relaxed, laid back and relatively low maintenance which means less headaches and dramas for him. He knew I would work extremely hard and get the job done.

Tell us more about your character Neera Singh

Neera is evolving throughout the story. At the beginning she?s a young innocent, naive girl who has recently got married and is besotted by her husband. As she discovers he is cheating on her, her world is shattered and her journey of self-discovery begins. Her ideals and life philosophy are challenged throughout. She eventually has her own affair, later she allows herself to be a muse and painted naked ?and in doing grows in confidence, her body language changes and she becomes more extroverted. She blossoms into an independent woman who can take on the world.

Do you relate to a character like Neera?

I related to Neera on many levels going back to when I was an insecure teenager, remembering and transferring those experiences in my own life which changed me. Remembering my behaviour and thought processes when I had been hurt in relationships. I often used subtle physicality to express her feelings.

Working in hindi language must have been difficult.

Yes it was. The words are not important to me? it is the feelings behind the words which count. But in order to allow emotions to flow you can?t be fishing for lines as it takes you out of the moment?so I had a HUGE task making sure I knew lines extremely well.

How was it working with an intense actor like Prashant Narayanan.

Prashant has a great personality, he?s always laughing and happy and his positive energy is infectious. He is a great laugh, is down to earth and loads of fun. I will always remember on our last day we went driving in the Welsh countryside with the roof down at night. We took it in turns to stand up and scream Hindi words. Usually the ones I stuffed up on.

What has been your experience working in Bollywood so far?

What I love about Bollywood is it?s energy and life. Mumbai has an strangely addictive quality and even though you?re hot and bothered when you?re there?.when you leave you miss it?s craziness. Everywhere you look there is a mini drama going on which is intriguing to watch. I have friends who have emigrated from England to Mumbai and when they come back to the UK they feel like they are entering utopia, everything runs smoother, however after a couple of weeks they get fidgety and bored.

My understanding of Bollywood is that it is The Matrix? a complex mystery, I have no idea why things happen the way they do and everything runs at a much faster pace. Everything is constantly changing?including scripts!!! I think I learnt 9 versions of PRINCE, last minute. I try to look on the bright side?it?s good for the mind. Also I?m too busy learning lines so it keeps me out of trouble.

Any plans of making Mumbai your base?

I?m so proud to have had the opportunity to work in the incredible world of Bollywood cinema, and at such a high level. Depending on the scripts I will continue to consider work offers from India. Even so, I?m not a Bollywood actor but an international actor and would like to remain so. This means I have management in different countries (England, America, France and India) Regarding shifting base to one place, this is difficult because of the nature of my work. I?m a bit like a gypsy and travel all over. Maybe I will settle one day, I?ll go with the flow and see what happens.

What are the other projects you are working on?

It?s exciting times and I have the starring lead in studio feature film called AO THE LAST NEANDERTHAL releasing in September. It?s a gritty beauty and the beast love story based 30,000 years ago.

(AP) ? The government is expected to finish its perjury case against former major league pitcher Roger Clemens on Tuesday, and the defense should begin its case.

The trial is entering its seventh week. Clemens' lawyers say they will need seven or eight court days to put on their defense.

On Friday, a government witness testified that two cotton balls and a syringe needle ? allegedly saved after a steroids injection ? tested positive for Clemens' DNA.

Clemens, a seven-time Cy Young Award winner, is accused of lying to Congress in 2008 when he denied using steroids or human growth hormone.

Earlier in the trial, Brian McNamee, Clemens' former strength and conditioning coach, said he had injected Clemens with steroids in 1998, 2000 and 2001 and with human growth hormone in 2000.

Microsoft Restores Access to Phones That Couldn'T Access Skype

IDG News Service (Miami Bureau) ? Microsoft has fixed a bug that made it impossible for about a dozen models of Skype-certified phones to log into the popular IM, VoIP and video-conferencing service.

Microsoft said on Thursday it was deploying a solution to the problem, according to a post on Skype's Heartbeat blog, which is devoted to bugs and system problems affecting the service.

"Over the past 24 hours, we have started deploying a fix on our end that resolves the log-in issues. We apologize for the inconvenience," Skype official Jennifer Caukin wrote in the post.

A Skype spokeswoman confirmed via email Friday afternoon that the issue is fully resolved, but declined to comment on what caused the problem and how many users were affected.

The problem apparently started last weekend, according to multiple discussion threads posted in the Other Devices section of the Skype support forum, where affected users flocked to complain about the problem, including some who use Skype for work.

The problem affected Skype-certified phones from vendors including Panasonic, Linksys, GE and Netgear.

iapetus lounger: Jun 15, Identity Theft Risk Management | Celframe ...

An effective identity theft risk management program must consider all risks associated with identity theft and related fraud including the unauthorized download of customer information, operations fraud resulting from stolen personal information from internal and external sources, and, excessive and inappropriate access to view customer information inside and outside of the information systems. In general, identity theft risk management efforts are usually concentrated around four general areas which are protection of personal information, compliance, fraud prevention and lawsuits.

As we increasingly share information with third parties due to outsourcing and other reasons, and digitally store business information including customer personal information, incidents of system intrusions by employees or outsiders become inevitable as we have witnessed in recent news. The excessive collection, retention and sharing of personal information as well as their storage in computer systems which are often connected to the public networks make computer incidents much more devastating for companies and their millions of customers. System intrusions have a much higher impact that non-technical theft of personal information such as hard copy reports containing personal information because digital information can be stolen, stored, carried around and shared in much higher quantities and speed. Many business databases have millions of customer information such as email addresses, names, credit card numbers, date of birth, and unique identifiers such as a social security number used in the United States which can easily be used to commit fraud.

External intrusions as well as unauthorized activities by internal employees to view and download confidential business information pose some of the greatest identity theft risks management challenges for companies. In fact, damage inflicted by insiders is huge and very common and although some employees may have authorized access to business information for legitimate business reasons, their access to systems and information is often not monitored to detect unauthorized activities. This lack of control is often due to the perception that since their access is authorized, inappropriate activities will not occur. This assumption can not be further from the truth as it is only an assumption. Companies must implement internal controls specifically designed for restricting and monitoring insider activities in the areas of information download, storage on external devices, and activities during unusual times of the day.

Identity theft risk management specialists are not only concerned with the protection of their customers? personal information from external and internal sources for fraud prevention and compliance purposes, but they are also concerned with personal information stolen from other companies which can be used to defraud their own companies. Companies often face Identity theft and fraud risks regardless of where the information was obtained from. High quality information stolen from any source which can be used to easily commit fraud has a wider identity theft ripple effect affecting many other companies. Affected companies may have the best information protection practices; however, if their identity theft risk management efforts do not address their operations, they are likely to experience fraud due to another company?s negligence.

In fact the Red Flags Rule was created to address fraud prevention at the transaction point regardless of where identity fraud components were stolen from. This law is a huge step in the right direction for the identity theft risk management field. For many years, the focus had been around protecting customer information although with less oversight around insider activities. However, we now recognize that information stolen from other sources can affect other companies and their customers which is why the Red Flag identity theft prevention law was created; to force and guide high risk companies toward an effective identity theft risk management and prevention strategy which identifies, detects and mitigates identity theft red flags.

Facebook faces crucial week after modest debut

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Newly issued shares in Facebook Inc may have a hard time in the coming week if lead underwriter Morgan Stanley stops supporting the stock and managers lower down in the IPO book who were hoping for an early surge decide to get out before going underwater.

Facebook on Friday sold 421 million shares of stock in a deal that valued the company at more than $100 billion. But investors, expecting a first-day pop in price, instead saw it close just 0.6 percent above the IPO price at $38.23.

As the underwriter, Morgan Stanley stepped in to support Facebook's stock when it fell toward its $38 IPO price shortly after it opened, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters. The shares spent much of the last hour of Friday trading near that price, with onlookers watching to see if it would post a $37.99 price - which it did not.

But the bank will not support the stock indefinitely, analysts said, and once that firepower is gone, funds that received IPO stock looking for a bounce may decide to bail as well.

Lead underwriters in a stock essentially "short" the stock through what is known as an "over-allotment" of shares - they sell shares to the market that they do not own. If the stock has trouble, which Facebook did, the underwriter supports it by then buying more stock at the IPO price.

Had Morgan Stanley bought all of the shares traded around $38 in the final 20 minutes of the day, it would have spent nearly $2 billion. The "green shoe" overallotment, which can be used to support Facebook's stock, is 63 million shares. At $38 per share, that amounts to $2.4 billion in firepower.

In an IPO where the stock rises significantly, the green shoe is typically exercised in the days after the debut and the company raises that additional amount. If Morgan Stanley shorted the full amount and bought shares on the open market to support the price, Facebook will not raise the extra $2.4 billion from the IPO.

"Right now you have one big buyer, Morgan Stanley," said a former chief operating officer for Bear Stearns, who dealt with IPOs on the investment bank's syndicate allocation committee, but asked not to be named as he did not want to talk publicly about the issue.

"That's what people are trying to figure out, how much of the shoe is left," he said. "In most deals, on the Friday that would be it; come Monday, it would be all bets are off, by Tuesday for sure."

That opens the door for short-sellers and institutions looking to get out. Short-selling is expected to be limited for a few more days. A prime broker on one of the lead underwriters said Friday that they would not be lending shares at least until settlement, which comes three business days after pricing.

In addition, with the stock market in correction mode as investors fret about Europe's ongoing debt crisis and the outlook for global growth, the environment for a new stock is not ideal.

That could mean the stock's fate will depend on the strength of the IPO anchor orders - the big clients at the top of the IPO book, who see Facebook as a core holding - as well as a host of retail clients who are less likely to sell their shares quickly and may even be enticed to buy more.

"It is very likely to dip under $38, particularly if overall market conditions deteriorate," said Mohannad Aama, managing director at Beam Capital Management in New York. "Morgan Stanley will continue to defend the $38 price, but that support is not endless."

PERFECTLY PRICED?

In the end, Friday's action suggests the IPO was truly priced to perfection. The company increased the amount of shares being offered last week and boosted the original selling price. Brokers at a number of broker-dealers told Reuters their clients were getting as much, if not more, than they expected.

That is what disappointed those expecting a 10 percent to 30 percent pop in the shares - rather than seeing the stock fall back to its IPO price shortly after opening.

"A Herculean effort by the underwriters, I would call it," said Jeff Matthews of hedge fund firm Ram Partners. "How could it be a hot deal if all the usual mutual fund suspects already own some going into the IPO?" he added.

The classic move by an underwriter to stop an IPO from "breaking issue" worked, if only barely.

Given the technical issues that plagued Nasdaq, with the stock opening about 30 minutes late and delays in receiving order confirmations continuing throughout the session, it is also hard to know how much Friday's action reflected reality.

"You really don't know how that left people, whether there were sellers who put in limits that weren't executed," said Rick Meckler, president of investment firm LibertyView Capital Management, a hedge fund with $1.3 billion in assets.

"I don't know if people stepped away at some point because they just couldn't execute in a clear manner, and that Monday we will have some follow through of people that weren't executed and still need to sell."

It's retail investors who stand to get hit the most if trades aren't executed properly, said Tim Pollock, professor of management and organization at the Pennsylvania State University.

"This is a situation where small investors are more likely to be affected because of the sizes of the orders they're putting in," he said.

"If Fidelity is saying they want to buy two million shares that's going to take priority over the smaller trades. As a regular retail investor placing orders through TD Ameritrade or Schwab you're at the back of the bus relative to institutional investors so you're hostage to the system."

One RBC broker said that with hindsight he was grateful that he was allocated just 500 of the 20,000 shares he requested.

Others had similar relief. Said John Lane, founder of Lane Capital Markets, a small broker-dealer in Fairfield, Conn., that has managed about 40 initial public offerings: "Many retail and institutional buyers were floored at how much stock they got."

Lane said he spoke with a hedge fund manager and a mutual fund manager who sent buy indications to more than a dozen brokerages on the theory that they would get a fraction of what they desired. "One got filled everywhere, and the other more than he wanted. They're both sweating right now," said Lane, who admits he bought shares near the end of the trading day at a little over $38.04.

If shares fail to recover in coming days, retail investors who were lured back into the market by the Facebook frenzy may revert back to the caution that has slowed trading since the 2008 market crash, some brokers fear.

Those who want to take bets against the company will not be able to do so through the options market until May 29. Activity in options of companies like Zynga suggests investors are using those to hedge against their position in Facebook.

Facebook's lackluster debut also had a knock-on effect on other social media stocks, which dropped sharply on Friday. LinkedIn , Groupon , Pandora Media and Yelp all fell at least 5 percent on Friday with Yelp losing 12 percent.

Paris 'Crazy Horse' exotic dancers strike over wages

Topless dancers at the renowned Crazy Horse night club in Paris have gone on strike, saying they are not being paid enough to take the shirts off their backs.

The Crazy Horse, one of the most popular establishments of its kind in the world, said on Wednesday it was forced to cancel performances on Tuesday and again on Wednesday for the first time since the cabaret was created in 1951.

The night club, which declined to give details on salary demands or current wages, said in a statement that it had always taken the wellbeing of its artists very seriously and that talks were continuing to resolve the dispute.

"It's an exceptional place which has the specialty of presenting a fully naked show," Suzanne, one of the dancers, told RTL radio.

"What's wrong is that we are asked to work 24 days per month for a pay that is worse than miserable," she said.

The cabaret's management said it was doing everything possible to reopen.

"Everything is done to give the Crazy Horse show back to its public," it said.

In the meantime, clients with tickets for a show on Tuesday or Wednesday will be offered a new date or a refund, a spokeswoman said.

The Crazy Horse, Lido and Moulin Rouge - where topless dancers perform in carefully orchestrated shows - have been top attractions for generations of tourists and locals.

In Colorado, same-sex marriage remains a hot issue

DENVER (AP) ? Minutes after President Barack Obama announced he supported gay marriage, the Democratic governor of Colorado choked back tears in Denver as he ordered state lawmakers to reconsider a civil-unions measure that Republicans had defeated the day before.

In the week that followed, the debate over equal rights for same-sex couples consumed the state Capitol. And while Republicans ultimately succeeded in killing the measure, Republicans and Democrats alike acknowledge that the emotional standoff over the issue could help shape the White House campaign in this presidential battleground state this fall.

"Go back to your communities, go back to your neighborhoods, go back to your churches and let them know that the fight continues," Republican House Speaker Frank McNulty implored gay-marriage opponents gathered outside the Capitol last Tuesday. He was looking to rally the state's huge number of religious conservatives who long have been the foot-soldiers in efforts to both oppose civil unions and elect Republicans.

Democrats, in turn, predicted that their loyalists, as well as independents, will rally behind Obama in Colorado given his support of same-sex marriage. Obama planned to visit the state next Wednesday to deliver a commencement address at the U.S. Air Force Academy, in Colorado Springs, before attending fundraisers in Denver.

"That will have a positive impact on the chances of the president being re-elected and winning Colorado in November," said Democratic Rep. Mark Ferrandino, a gay lawmaker who co-sponsored the civil unions legislation and said that its supporters would be "very active" in the fall on the issue.

Since 2008, equal rights for same-sex couples ? either through civil unions or gay marriage ? has flared red-hot in just a handful of the dozen or so battleground states where the White House race will be decided. Two of those states, Iowa and New Hampshire, now recognize gay marriage, while North Carolina recently took the opposite stance, voting to strengthen its ban against gay marriage.

But the fight in Colorado ? coming just as Obama disclosed his new position ? was especially bitter, and feelings on both sides are raw. So Republicans and Democrats are bracing for social issues like gay marriage and civil unions to factor into voters' calculations about whether to back the Democratic incumbent or presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney, who opposes allowing gay people to get married.

The economy, to be sure, is certain to dominate the race in the state. Colorado's unemployment rate is 7.9 percent, lower than in some swing states and marginally lower than the national average of 8.1 percent. But with joblessness falling, social issues like civil unions could well become more of an issue in voters' minds.

Less than six months before the election, Colorado's nine electoral votes are up for grabs and the race here is expected to be competitive. That's largely because of the fickle nature of a state that's evenly divided among registered Republicans, Democrats and independents.

Look no further than the state's evolution on same-sex partnerships as evidence of its swing nature.

Just six years ago, Coloradans overwhelmingly voted to change the state constitution to ban gay marriage after a campaign largely funded by Focus on the Family, a conservative group based in Colorado that's influential across the nation.

By this spring, though, there was enough bipartisan support in the state Legislature to approve civil unions. And yet GOP leaders twice used legislative maneuvers to stop same-sex recognition, most recently last Monday.

Republicans accused Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper of taking marching orders from the White House by pushing the civil union measure in hopes of diverting attention from the sluggish economic recovery.

"Make no mistake about it," McNulty said. "It's absolutely clear to me that Governor Hickenlooper is reading straight from President Obama's campaign playbook."

Democrats, in turn, argued that Colorado Republicans filibustered equality.

Some conservatives insist that Obama's position on marriage will hurt him in Colorado.

"Six years is not a long time," said Carrie Gordon Earll of CitizenLink, the public policy arm of Focus on the Family. She was referring to the state passage of its gay marriage ban. "I would think a majority of voters would say, 'That does not align with my views.'"

Others counter that Colorado's views may be changing as quickly as the nation's. Consider that a handful of Republicans in the House said they'd support civil unions, meaning the measure would have passed if GOP leaders hadn't maneuvered to prevent a vote. Senate Democrats have passed civil unions two years in a row, both times joined by Republican women in the Senate.

Some Republicans fear that the GOP's civil unions stand in Colorado could harm the party with independent voters.

"The truth is we may have not only sacrificed our razor-thin House majority, but we also may have permanently impaired Republican prospects in Colorado at all levels, including for the presidential race," said Alexander Hornaday, president of Colorado Log Cabin Republicans, a gay rights organization.

Then there are those who doubt the issue's potency come the fall. Among them is Kirk Fordham, the executive director of the Denver-based Gill Action Fund. The political organization is funded by Tim Gill, a nationally prominent gay rights activist credited with helping fund a Democratic takeover of Colorado's legislature in 2005.

"By the time we get to November," Fordham predicted, "the attention will largely have shifted back to economic issues."

Cruise line sued for failing to rescue fishermen

MIAMI (Reuters) - Princess Cruises has been hit with a lawsuit accusing it of "outrageous conduct" and "callous disregard for human life" for failing to rescue three young men aboard a disabled Panamanian fishing boat, two of whom later died at sea.

The civil complaint, in a tragic high seas case that has grabbed the international spotlight, was filed in circuit court in Miami last week.

It was filed on behalf of 18-year-old Adrian Vasquez of Panama, the sole survivor of the incident in the open Pacific Ocean earlier this year.

Vasquez and two friends, 16-year-old Fernando Osorio and Oropeces Betancourt, 24, were adrift after losing power aboard the small boat in which they had embarked from Rio Hato, Panama, on February 24 on a commercial fishing trip.

The vessel, called the Fifty Cents, had been adrift for 15 days when it came within sight of the Star Princess, a luxury cruise ship operated by Princess Cruises, the lawsuit says.

Three Star Princess passengers spotted it and alerted a crew member to the vessel, as Vasquez and his friends waved their arms and a shirt tied to a pole to signal they were in distress, according to the lawsuit.

It contends that the cruise ship refused to offer any assistance, however, failing to alter its course and sealing the fate of two young men who died what were otherwise avoidable deaths.

The lack of help was despite the fact that the crew member who "visually confirmed the distressed boat for himself" was alleged to have reported the emergency situation to the cruise ship's bridge and other Princess employees, the civil complaint says.

Osorio died about 24 to 36 hours after the Star Princess sighting, according to Manuel Epelbaum, an attorney for Vasquez. He said Osorio's death was followed within a matter of days by that of Betancourt.

"They're claiming the captain didn't know," Epelbaum told Reuters, referring to a statement issued by Princess Cruises on Monday.

"We're questioning whether that is even true," he said.

Princess Cruises, a unit of global cruise industry giant Carnival Corp, said it was still investigating the Fifty Cents incident and the claim that Star Princess failed to come to the aid of the disabled fishing boat.

"UNFORTUNATE MISCOMMUNICATION"

But the cruise line, which is based in Santa Clarita, California, blamed an apparent breakdown in communication through the chain of command on the cruise ship.

"Because of what we suspect was a case of unfortunate miscommunication, regretfully the captain of Star Princess was never notified of the passengers' concern," it said in a statement.

"This is an upsetting and emotional issue for us all, as no employee onboard a Princess ship would purposefully ignore someone in distress," the statement added. "It is our ethical and maritime responsibility to provide assistance to any vessel in need, and it is not an uncommon occurrence for our ships to be involved in a rescue at sea."

Vasquez was rescued 13 days after being sighted by the Star Princess passengers by another fishing boat near the Galapagos Islands, according to the lawsuit.

It asserts that the trio of passengers who witnessed the distressed vessel followed up with a Star Princess officer, two days after the sighting, but the officer walked away without offering any explanation.

"This incident was once again reported to an officer of the Star Princess who continued the pattern of callous disregard for human life," the complaint says.

"This pattern of conscious neglect further evidences Princess' outrageous conduct and their complete disregard for the lives and safety of the men who were adrift at sea," it says.

Princess Cruises did not return a call seeking comment on the Fifty Cents case.

Epelbaum said the Star Princess' failure to rescue people lost at sea violated general maritime law and several international treaties or conventions. But maritime legal experts say enforcement of such laws or obligations is limited, often falling to the flag state of the ship in question.

The Star Princess is registered in Bermuda under the so-called "flag of convenience" system, which allows U.S.-based cruise ships to avoid many U.S. taxes and labor and safety laws.

Nokia loses UK appeal against IPCom's pointless patent posturing

Image

Nokia has had its appeal dismissed in the UK High Court in its Europe-wide patent battle against IPCom. The court found that the handset maker had infringed the German firm's 3G patent, but only on the Nokia N96 -- a phone the company no longer sells. IPCom can now request a ban on all British sales of the 2008 handset, a move that will probably affect tens of people. We've got an official response from Nokia's Mark Durrant after the break.
